Birth Doula

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF

I've learned through the years that there's joy to be found in every moment; even the hard ones. I've had a good day if I can say I was "present" for the people around me. I am a certified doula with DONA Int’l and have been assisting births for 15 years. I am also a certified childbirth educator through Lamaze Int’l and a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. In an earlier chapter of my life I was a microelectronic engineer, so I have a love of good scientific research, and can understand the β€œmedical model” of birth. I can help you use evidence based information to inform your intuition as you meet your child. My favorite credential though is my love and respect for the transforming power of birth and what an amazing tool a woman’s own wisdom can be.

HOW DID YOU COME TO DOULA WORK?

I learned a long time ago that birth is something you do, not something that happens to you. Through my own experiences building a birth team, I found that communicating with care providers from the perspective of my science/engineering background really helped us to recognize where science and spirit meet in the birth process.  When my own doula asked me to speak to her other clients about communicating with care providers in pregnancy, my career in birth work began!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST OR FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT DOULA WORK?

The way we meet our children influences the way we meet the world. When the person giving birth finds and recognizes the wisdom within themselves... there's almost no greater feeling. Knowing that they're going to take that empowerment going forward through life is what I love most about being a doula.

what are your specialties or areas of particular passion?

When you approach each moment and each new meeting as filled with possibility, the world becomes so beautiful! When I'm able to use my skill and experience to help others to do the same in birth, I feel like we've changed the world for the better. Together. Whether it's your first birth or your fifth, planned cesarean or planned at home, my particular passion is meeting my client where they need it most, and help them get to meeting their beautiful baby.
